Santa Barbara resident Jonathan Ulises Aceves, 24, was arrested early this morning after a suspected domestic violence incident turned into an all-night standoff with authorities.

At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars reported, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call that a man was hitting a woman near the intersection of Magna Vista Street and Baxter Street. “The caller also reported hearing several gunshots outside a nearby residence shortly before the physical attack,” Sugars said.

Sheriff’s deputies made contact with the woman, who, although showing signs of injury, declined medical attention. The deputies then tracked Aceves to his home in the 4700 block of Chandler Street. They soon learned Aceves had access to several guns and is on probation.

Aceves refused to surrender, so the Sheriff’s office summoned the Special Enforcement Team, the department’s equivalent of a SWAT squad. They arrived at around 1:30 a.m., Wednesday morning. Several homes in the area were evacuated for safety reasons, and at 3:15 a.m., Sheriff’s personnel took Aceves into custody without incident. A search of his home turned up at least one weapon, said Sugars.

Aceves is booked in County Jail and faces multiple felony charges, including domestic battery, making death threats, threatening a witness, discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and committing a crime while on probation. His bail is set at $100,000.
