Over the years, Ryan and Jessica Carr of Carr Winery have become frequent guests at Jill’s Place, where they have often talked with owner Jill Shalhoob about teaming up for an event. Explained Jessica Carr, “This seemed like the perfect way to showcase our wines and [Jill’s] food.”
So the three of them sat down to plan such an evening, and the results will be on hand for all to try this Wednesday, November 16, when a delicious wine and food tasting menu will be available from 5:30 until 10:30 p.m. at Jill’s Place, 632 Santa Barbara Street. Ryan Carr will be there from 6 to 8 p.m. to share his passion and knowledge about wine and answer questions about how to pair wine with food.
Here’s the menu:
• A stainless steel-fermented pinot gris will be served with grilled artichoke with a hint of lemon and smokiness which balances well with the crispness of the wine’s tropical fruits, minerality, and citrus.
• Pork tenderloin will be paired with a pinot noir from the Sta. Rita Hills. The medium-bodied red wine has hints of fruit, spice, and earthiness which is perfect for leaner meats.
• The last course of the menu is filet mignon. With a rich, silky full-bodied syrah with spices and dark berry flavors, this will be the perfect way to round up a flavorsome menu.
The menu, said Jessica Carr, “allows guests to try new items on the menu that maybe they haven’t had before paired with a local Carr wine.” The cost of the menu is $32. For reservations, call Jill’s Place at 805-963-0378.
