Let’s stand as a community and make clear to the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission that high density four story buildings are not acceptable.
There is a proposal before the County of Santa Barbara to rezone the acreage at the corner of San Marcos Road and Hollister from agriculture to build dwellings that obstruct our views, take away the open space for farming locally and increases traffic. This area already serves our community along with many neighborhoods where our families live.
It is not our responsibility to meet the land developer’s need to provide him the rights to recover his investment for overdeveloping our community.
Our responsibility is to provide an environment that serves the future generations with a model for living in more harmony with our environment. Overcrowding and heavier traffic are definitely not in the interest of our legacies. Let’s think of the bigger picture — what we want for our children — and make sure this happens by the choices and actions we take now.
We can make a difference, if we participate. The scheduled hearing on these choices for us as a community is tomorrow, September 14th, 10 a.m. at the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission.
Let’s work together and keep open land for more local food, less transport of our food, beautiful views, less traffic, and a living model for our children. If this goes away, the children will not know what is possible.
