Where: 3687 Sagunto Street, Santa Ynez, (805) 686-4785, mavericksaloon.org

What: A Santa Ynez saloon staple serving lunch Tuesday through Sunday, as well as late-night eats Thursday through the weekend

How Much: Maverick Haymaker, $12

The Dish: Old-town Santa Ynez is home to rustic ranch eateries such as Hayloft Grill at the memorable Maverick Saloon, established in 1963. Focusing on traditional pub fare from indulgent beer-battered munchies to 100-percent Certified Angus Beef, Solvang Bakery buns, tenders, wings, poppers, and rings make the cut. If your appetite is wailing, try the Maverick Haymaker — a ⅓-pound burger topped with crispy bacon, fleshy avocado, and sharp cheddar. Beers are typically accompanied by a heaping basket of Maverick fries flavored again with battered beer. Vegetarians are also welcomed onto the wood porch and through the saloon doors, greeted on the menu by a “steer-less” garden burger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. Boasting the best burger in the valley alongside Tuesday-night karaoke, Thursday beer pong, and Western dance lessons, Hayloft packs the house to enjoy food at the grill.
