Softball teams from all over Central California will converge on Elings Park the last weekend of June to try and qualify for this year’s prestigious ASA Western Nationals which will be held in Fresno, CA from August 1st through 7th. Over 50 teams from three separate divisions (10U, 12U & 14U) will play in this vital 3-day double elimination tournament culminating in berths being granted to teams on Sunday for ASA Western Nationals.
The Central California American Softball Association (CCASA) territory includes teams from the counties of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Kern, Mono and Inyo. Girls ages 9 – 10 will compete in the 10U division; girls 11 – 12 will compete in the 12U division; and players 13 – 14 will compete in the 14U division. Games will begin every 2 hours from 4pm to 8pm Friday; 8am – 6pm Saturday; and 8am to 2pm Sunday. The tournament is being co-hosted at Dos Pueblos High School and will run simultaneously with the games being played at Elings Park. The local girls softball organization known as Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association (GVGSA) will have 2 teams competing in this prestigious tournament.
Established in 1980, Elings Park is a 230-acre recreational complex that serves more than 219,000 people each year. It is the largest privately funded public park in America. It is administered by the Elings Park Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that operates on contributions from members of the community.
