Carl Leon Vines, the suspected perpetrator of a Santa Barbara Mobil gas station robbery on Hollister Avenue last Saturday, was arrested this Wednesday at his home — two blocks from the scene of the crime.
The clerk told deputies that at approximately 10:51 p.m., a masked man clad in blue jeans and jacket had approached him, brandishing a gun and demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the man exited the store and fled, jumping over a wall on the south side of the Mobil station.
Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars reported that at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, detectives obtained a search warrant for Vines’s home and booked him into the Santa Barbara County Jail later that morning. Vines is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
