Common sense would dictate that a president who green-lighted a brilliant military operation resulting in Osama bin Laden’s burial at sea would be deserving of some gratitude, or at least some grudging respect from non-admirers. Instead, we’re seeing silly conspiracy theories, vapid talking heads busily re-assigning credit for the mission’s success to the Bush administration, and outlandish suggestions that dispatching the world’s most-wanted terrorist is a “distraction” from the real issue, which is, of course, the birth certificate. In a frenzied effort to circle the wagons, the loony right has finally succeeded in galloping over the edge of the cliff.
