A person who had fallen into Mission Creek off the Yanonali Street footbridge was rescued by Santa Barbara City firefighters on April 9. Stuck in the 15-foot deep creek bed, the person suffered major injuries to his legs due to the fall.
Firefighters extracted the victim from the creek bed using a rescue operation called a “ladder slide,”which took 25 minutes. This technique involved loading him into a Rescue Stokes basket — a stretcher with raised edges — and sliding him up the ladder with a rope system.
The injured man was transported to a local hospital for further medical assessment.
