Dr. William Skeen, the Executive Director of Physicians for a National Health Program – California, (pnhpcalifornia.org) will be the guest speaker at the March 25th meeting of the Santa Barbara Chapter of Health Care for All – California.
Dr. Skeen’s topic will be Taking the Next Steps to Medicare for All.
The discussion will cover pending legislation in both Washington (HR 676 -John Conyers) and California (Senate Bill 810 – Mark Leno), why single payer is fiscally conservative and morally right, why local organizing is needed, and actions supporters can take.
Dr. Skeen, born and raised in Santa Barbara, earned a B.A. in Latin American Studies from Stanford University, a Master’s in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley and received his MD from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Medical Center and practiced emergency medicine in Southern California prior to his work in public health advocacy.
Dr. Skeen has more than fifteen years experience in public health advocacy. Prior to PNHP, he worked for Soapbox Consulting, a Washington, DC-based consulting firm specializing in grassroots advocacy.
The meeting, free and open to everyone, will be on Friday, March 25, at 7 PM at the Goleta Public Library, 500 N. Fairview Ave., Goleta.
