Here are some examples of what Republicans in Congress are saying versus what they are doing.
They say they want to reduce the deficit. Actually, they decreased revenue by demanding the continuation of tax-cuts for the wealthy and taxpayer subsidies for big corporations. This has substantially increased the deficit.
They say they want to create jobs. Actually, they passed a bill in the house to cut over $60 billion from the remainder of the current budget. If implemented this plan would cut economic growth in half and kill 700,000 jobs.
They say they want to keep government out of our personal lives. Actually, they plan to use government mandates to impose extremely narrow values regarding marriage and abortion on everyone. If passed these proposals will interfere with our personal lives and medical decisions.
They say the want a better future for our children. Actually, they voted to weaken or eliminate enforcement of regulations protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the planet we live on. If these changes are implemented our children’s health and prosperity will be degraded.
They say they are representing the interests of the American people. Actually, their policies consistently benefit big corporations at the expense of the hardworking, tax-paying citizens of our country.
Increasing corporate profits and mandating right-wing values seem to be their only priorities. What about good jobs, healthcare, and education? What about preserving a livable planet?
