Eat the Poor

Just when you think they couldn’t get more cynical and disgusting, the people who claim that giving tax benefits to the wealthy is a way to reduce the deficit do this: House Republicans [tried to block] legislation that would give more needy children the opportunity to eat free lunches at school and make those lunches healthier.

Perhaps it’s time to drop the pretense and adopt Jonathan Swift’s Modest Proposal, that children of the poor “be offered in sale to the persons of quality and fortune…. A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends, and when the family dines alone, the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish …I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children.”
