Due to some preexisting conditions, it was virtually impossible to get private coverage on the open market for our 23-year-old daughter after she aged out of our family plan, so we paid for her to be covered by COBRA. Thanks to health care reform, we just got notification that we can put her back on the family plan, which saves our family $550.00 per month. There must be thousands of other families breathing a sigh of relief that their adult children can access affordable health care insurance again and that they will not be denied due to preexisting conditions. Families must speak out about the real benefits that they are experiencing with health care reform to counter the Republican rhetoric about this being a “monstrosity.” If the new House majority is so strongly opposed to government-sponsored health care, they should lead the way by eliminating their own generous benefits first.
