Last Saturday, September 4, seven members of the Cate Community ran in the Pier to Peak Half Marathon in Santa Barbara. All are familiar with a long road but this steep run put all of them to the test. Math teacher Tim Smith runs marathons regularly, often finishing first in his age group. History teacher Karl Weis competed in an ironman this summer (not his first). Margot, Hallie, Beth, and Lisa have all finished well in past marathons. Maybe it’s something in the water…
Often called “The World’s Toughest Half Marathon” because of the 4,000-foot climb, from mile five onward, participants face a difficult uphill grade. the Pier to Peak Half Marathon starts at the edge of Sterns Wharf at the Santa Barbara Friendship Dolphins Fountain runs past the Queen of the Missions and then up 3,996 feet to La Cumbre Peak at Look Out Park in the Los Padres National Forest.
