UCSB Students Clean House for Good Cause

Two-Day Sale Offers Wide Array of Items and Benefits Community Projects

Fri Jun 18, 2010 | 12:00pm

UCSB’s project GIVE will be hosting a two-day sale of unwanted student items. Students have donated clothes, books, furniture, kitchenware, household goods, electronics, bicycles, and other items to the project which encourages students to donate rather than throw away their unwanted things.

Catherine Boyer, the Isla Vista/UCSB liaison, stated in a press release that students contribute to the project because they “want to be ‘green’ and promote zero waste and recycling” and also they “feel strongly about giving back to their local community.” Proceeds go to Isla Vista nonprofits and community projects, and UCSB’s GIVE sale donated $20,000 in 2009. Unsold items go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a charity that aids Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.

GIVE will hold the sale June 19-20, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., in the parking lot of UCSB’s Embarcadero Hall at 935 Embarcadero del Norte in Isla Vista. Admission is free.
