At around 6 a.m. yesterday morning, May 28, County Fire crews responded to a car fire at 380 Ellwood Beach Drive in Goleta. According to fire spokesperson Capt. David Sadecki, fire personnel arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames within the carport of a 14-unit apartment complex.
The blaze was quickly knocked down, Sadecki said, and did not spread to the building. Prior to the firefighters’ arrival, residents had tried to put out the flames with extinguishers but to no avail. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Last year around this time, five cars were torched in the same area within just a few hours. Those incidents, all occurring on June 3, were determined by fire investigators to be related. Authorities have not yet speculated on any correlation between last year’s car fires and Friday’s blaze.
