Anybody can taste wine. It takes a brave man to opt to make it, having never done so, and what’s more, then make a film about making it, capturing how complicated a process turning grapes into wine really is. That’s what Dos Pueblos High grad Rob DaFoe did in his film From Ground to Glass, a chronicle of an oenophilic obsession featuring numerous brilliant winemakers such as Chuck Carlson of Curtis Winery, Richard Sanford of Alma Rosa, and Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat. Santa Barbara Winery will be kicking off its new Friday Night Movie and Wine Tasting Series with DaFoe’s doc, plus a tasting of their wines and sure-to-be yummy paired food from Chef Nathan Heil from Pierre Lafond Wine Bistro on Friday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at its downtown winery. Joining DaFoe for a post-screening Q&A will be as-yet-to-be-named winemakers from the film, as if you need more reason to attend. For required reservations for this $50/person event, call 962-1455 or email rr@sbwinery.com
