De La Vina between Figueroa and Carrillo Streets was still closed at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning after a fire broke out in an apartment off De La Vina at around 6 a.m. Santa Barbara City Fire responded to the fire at 1023 De La Vina, where they found the middle unit of a three unit apartment complex in flames.
The fire was contained to that apartment, which was totally lost. According to firefighters, a smoke detector alerted residents of the fire. Neighbors reported hearing windows popping from the fire and yells of “get out of the building” just before 6 a.m.
There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters, and the cause is under investigation.
