The 2nd Annual Santa Barbara Community Seed Swap is set to sprout up in S.B. this weekend, drawing gardening and agriculture buffs—as well as locavores and food lovers—to Alameda Park (Sola St., between Anacapa and Garden sts.). The swap, which runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, is hosted by grassroots group S.B. Foods Not Lawns, which promotes smaller-scale agricultural and environmental sustainability by encouraging people to cultivate and trade their own home-grown produce. Seed swappers of all creeds will be invited to bring, take, and trade their plants, seeds, cuttings, and garden knowledge with others—then later harvest what they reap at home. Activities for swappers of all ages will range from seedling story hour for little ones to worm composting and bare root tree cultivation workshops for adults. Admission to the event is free. Call 897-1976.
