Santa Barbara Channelkeeper and the City of Santa Barbara have taken on the task of weekly bacteria testing at local beaches during the winter months since funding for County Environmental Health Services to conduct the winter sampling was eliminated. A WARNING beach status is issued when one or more of the bacterial health standards are exceeded.

WARNING = Sampling results indicate bacterial levels exceed one or more state health standards at this location. Contact with ocean water may increase risk of illness. Swimmers are advised to stay out of the water a minimum of 50 yards away from both sides of creek mouths or storm drains.
NOTE: Due to furloughs, the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division is closed through January 1, 2010, and samples were not collected at Arroyo Burro, Leadbetter, East Beach at Mission Creek, and East Beach at Sycamore Creek. Regular sampling at these beaches will resume next week.
