Authorities have taken into custody a UCSB student believed to be the same man who was behind an incident at South Hall that led to an evacuation of the building and a campus-wide alarm.
UCSB police received a call Monday afternoon, October 19, of a man yelling from a balcony on the sixth floor of South Hall who possibly had a weapon. Authorities worked to evacuate the building while on high alert looking for a suspect, but no one was found.
Police said they contacted the man, a UCSB student, Tuesday evening after receiving a call of a suspicious person outside a sorority house in Isla Vista. They determined that he was the same person implicated in the South Hall incident. Authorities also believe the man was the reason for more than one suspicious-person phone call around campus Tuesday.
The man was cited for prowling and, “due to his comments and demeanor,” was undergoing psychiatric evaluation, according to a press release from the university.
