Santa Barbara County is making rain barrels available to county residents for 60 percent off of their retail price to encourage use of captured water.
The county will be selling Systern Rain Barrels, which normally retail for at least $120, for $50, tax included, this Saturday at Santa Barbara City College, in parking lot 3.
Residents can use the captured rainwater for landscape irrigation, according to county officials, conserving potable water supplies and taking some stress off of watersheds. At the same time, it reduces rainwater runoff that lead to pollution of streams and oceans.
The barrels will be sold on a first come, first served basis, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to sbwater.org/rainbarrel for more information.
