Student health officials are expecting “a dramatic increase” in cases with the start of fall quarter, however. Facemasks will be given out to students with confirmed or suspected cases, but are not required for anyone else as they have not been shown to decrease the spread of illness.

The University of California will issue about $1.4 billion worth of bonds, to be sold to the public during the week of 8/17. The bond sale announcement noted that some 70 projects earmarked for the funds are already under construction at the 10 UC campuses, and many, like student housing, are revenue generating. The borrowed funds will be used for capital projects only-not to avoid furloughs or salary cuts or for other operating expenses.
