Police have made a third arrest in the case of a home invasion marijuana-robbery and assault that occurred July 31. Miles Mims, 20, was taken into custody on August 4. An arrest warrant has been issued for the fourth suspect, Carl Douglas Whaley, 19, who remains at large. He has been described as black, 5’9” tall, 155 pounds, and is believed to be armed and dangerous.
In the incident, a 23-year-old man was reportedly robbed of $200 and two ounces of marijuana after letting three men into his home in the 100 block of Oceano Avenue, on July 31. He said he knew one of the men previously. The victim sustained injuries to his face, head, and leg.
The ensuing investigation prompted officers, at 6:40 p.m. on August 1, to stop a car in the 200 block of Los Alamos Avenue, only a few blocks away from Oceano Avenue. That traffic stop resulted in the arrest of Gina Elizabeth Mead and Dominique Xavier Battle, both 20-year-old Santa Barbara residents. According to Duarte’s report of the matter, Mead had driven Battle to the victim’s residence. Once there, Battle met two other men and they entered the place. Mead and Battle were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy.
Police say they have confirmed that a handgun had been used in the crime.
