Real Estate Agent Thyne to Run for City Council
Joins an Already Packed Race for Three Open Seats
Commercial real estate agent John Thyne announced that he is running for the Santa Barbara City Council, explaining, “I hope I can bring some business solutions to the problems affecting us, but not a pro-business agenda.” Thyne, a 10-year resident of Santa Barbara, said he’s been encouraged to run by activists from all sides of the political spectrum. Best known for his real estate ventures, Thyne also teaches at the College of Law and is active with his parish, Our Lady of Sorrows.
Three council seats will be open this November, with only one incumbent, Grant House, running. In addition to Thyne, David Pritchett, creeks activist now on the Transportation and Circulation Committee, has indicated an intention to run, as has peace activist Lane Anderson, Planning Commissioner Bendy White, Riviera activist Dianne Channing, SBCAN activist Olivia Uribe, and Santa Barbara Safe Streets advocate Michael Self.
