• The Exploring Solutions Past: The Maya Forest Alliance is an S.B.-based nonprofit that works at the archaeological site of El Pilar on the border of Belize and Guatemala and with the traditional Maya in surrounding communities to promote sustainable solutions to living with our environment. • February is National Spay/Neuter month at animal shelters across the nation, organized and sponsored by the Humane Society of the U.S. to offer the public a low-fee method of obtaining the surgery for their pets to reduce the homeless animal population. At the S.B. chapter of the Humane Society (5399 Overpass Rd.) and at several other animal hospitals across the county, special reduced rates will be offered throughout the month-ranging from $35 to neuter a male cat to $60 to spay a female dog.
