The folks at the Canary Hotel (31 W. Carrillo St., (805) 884-0300, canarysantabarbara.com) have cooked up a two-day Valentine extravaganza, hoping to leave all romantics singing.

The foodie heart of the matter is a special Valentine’s Day Dinner (on February 14, of course) at Coast Restaurant and Lounge that includes herb-roasted filet, butter-poached lobster, handmade agnolotti with black truffle, and a dessert billed “For the Love of Chocolate” – and we don’t really want to know what you would do for the cacao bean.

“Our Valentine’s menu is designed to celebrate the changing of the seasons and a look toward spring,” says Chef Brian Parks. “This time of year in Santa Barbara is great for produce, and we wanted to be able to spotlight some of the better items available now.” The cost is $45/person, and reservations are recommended.

Those who want a head start on the festivities can check out a party at the Perch (the rooftop bar), on Friday, February 13, 710 p.m. It’s even a masquerade, so you can end up asking, “Who was that masked man/woman?” as you nosh on hosted hors d’oeuvres and get down to music spun by DJ Scott Topper Productions. If you book ahead it’s $15, or $20 at the door.
