Goleta City Council last week approved the $103 million plan to rebuild Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital just south of its current location. The new building will cut bed count by more than half and move certain departments to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but it will provide larger single-patient rooms and add more emergency and surgery rooms. The plan was a response to a decree by the state to improve or rebuild hospitals for earthquakes.
