Spinto Band

Moonwink

The Spinto Band sound like part crazy circus, part The Killers on crack. The Delaware band’s first album, Moonwink, doesn’t have a depressing bone in its 11-track, 34-minute-long body. The playful guitar parts on “Later On” (a sonic trip straight out of Moulin Rouge!) are fun, but it’s the maracas that really serve to spice things up. The album begins and ends in cabaret fashion, concluding with the lascivious “The Black Flag.” In fact, the whole album is full of amusing, catchy hooks (check out “Vivian, Don’t”). Likewise, the “la-la”-licious “Pumpkins & Paisley,” if it catches on, will no doubt do well on the radio. Yes, Moonwink could be a commercial hit, but the Spinto Band are unique enough to meet indie fans’ needs for eccentricity, too.
