Santa Barbara sheriff’s deputies on 10/30 arrested two men-Joseph DeJesus, 23, and David Reed, a 22-year-old Isla Vista resident-on charges of possession of cocaine and ecstasy with intent to sell. According to reports from the Sheriff’s Department, a search warrant for an apartment on the 6500 block of Isla Vista’s Cordoba Road yielded 1,500 ecstasy pills, more than three ounces of cocaine, and about $7,200 in cash. Investigators alleged that DeJesus makes regular weekend drug trafficking runs to Isla Vista from Northern California. (/ivdrugs)

The sentencing date for 15-year-old Ricardo Juarez, scheduled for 10/30, was continued to 1/8 in a brief hearing in front of Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Brian Hill. Juarez, who was convicted in October of manslaughter in the stabbing death of 15-year-old Luis Angel Linares, faces up to 22 years in jail. Ron Sherrill, the 51-year-old Vandenberg Village man reported missing on 10/30, was found in the chaparral by neighbors near Vela Way in Lompoc on 11/1. Sherrill had undergone knee surgery and was on medication, and was described as by sheriff’s spokesperson Drew Sugars as being in good condition, although disoriented and dehydrated. (/sherrill1106)

On the evening of 10/29, an SUV driven by 58-year-old Carpinteria resident Etelina Figueroa south on Highway 101 near Summerland was struck from behind by a van and then careened off a cliff. Though her SUV ultimately landed on its roof, both Figueroa and an 8-year-old passenger survived with moderate injuries. The driver of the van had allegedly lost control of his vehicle, according to a CHP report. (/accident1106)
