HOW MUCH? Appetizers $5.95 – $8.95, sandwiches $7.95 – $9.95, entrees $10.95 – $23.95, children’s menu $5.95, Big Bucket of BBQ $49.95.
THE DISH: Slightly hidden behind the Creekside Tavern, JR’s is a little difficult to find. Look for the rock columns, the large metal B B Q letters on the roof and the irresistible smell of BBQ wafting through the air. Although owner Jon Reid has been cooking up BBQ for more than 20 years, and winning competitions along the way (including the “Grand Master Award” at the L.A. County Fair), JR’s the restaurant only opened in October 2007. It has gained a steady following since then, expanding its hours and menu to fit the demand. The interior is awash in warm, welcoming color and comfortable decor. Western tchotchkes adorn the walls and an antique gasoline pump stands watch at the door. Fair warning, don’t look at the price per gallon locked in place–you might lose your appetite. You’ll definitely want to keep it to enjoy the Award Winning Baby Backs, Fire-Roasted Tri-Tip, Oak Smoked Beef Ribs, and the Slow Smoked Brisket. For those with a big appetite, there are juicy combo platters ranging from the two meat combo to the Big Bucket of BBQ containing beef ribs, pork ribs, and a whole chicken accompanied by two delicious sides. Comfort food in comfortable surroundings. Pull up a chair, grab a stack of napkins, and stay awhile.
