What has four legs, spits, and makes a wonderful sweater? The answer: Alpacas. Unlike their cousin the llama, alpacas are valued only for their fiber, which is used to make myriad kitted and woven textiles. The fiber comes in more than 52 natural colors in Peru, 12 in Australia, and 16 in the United States. On Saturday, September 27, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. the public can get up close and personal with alpacas at Silver Sun Alpacas, 3030 Baseline Ave., Santa Ynez, for free.
