With school’s start just around the corner, it’s not a minute too soon to search for great after-school activities to challenge your children academically, socially, and physically. The Independent’s annual After-School Guide has programs divided by age group and type: After-school care centers, sports groups, and myriad of arts programs, as well as enrichment programs and work-experience programs for teens. Our guide will provide you with fun and creative options for the after-school hours. Read on and find the program that will offer an enriching experience for your child outside of the classroom.

General Programs

Girls Inc. of Greater S.B.

The Great Escape Camp

Tennis, swimming, hiking, field games, day trips, arts and crafts, and more. Most activities take place in city parks. Life After-School Sports and Recreation Program

Life After School is designed to give students an opportunity to try a variety of sports and diverse activities in an environment that de-emphasizes competition and focuses on participation and fun. Junior High After-School Sports and Enrichment Program

RAP is principal-endorsed and provides a supervised, fun program after school. Scholarships and financial assistance available. Ceramics Parties for Children

Programs for Girl Scouts

Classes for Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts to learn about ceramics. Beach Stars Gymnastics

Beach Stars Gymnastics in Carpinteria is a recreational gymnastics club that teaches technical gymnastics in a creative, fun way. There’s a 62-foot ocean mural behind a large boat that houses a trampoline, foam pit, bungee harness, and a rock climbing wall. Teens

Santa Barbara Youth Council

Teens 13-18 serve as an advisory board to the mayor, Santa Barbara City Council, and the Park and Recreation Commission. They also serve as a teen advisory group to Teen Programs and are instrumental in the development and opening of a new Teen Center at 1235 Chapala St. More than just a collection of community service hours-it is community service and leadership at its highest level.
