Citizenship can be difficult to prove because different laws apply to different birth years, she said. (/deportcitizen)

La Conchita residents’ lawsuit against Ventura County, in the wake of the 2005 landslide that destroyed 13 houses and killed 10 people, was concluded on 7/14. Ventura County Superior Court Judge Vincent O’Neill ruled the county was only liable for property losses, not loss of life. Plaintiffs claimed that a county-built retaining wall contributed to the landslide. A separate case, accusing La Conchita Ranch Company of contributing to the slide by over-watering the orchard above the town, is still in court. (/conchitavcounty)
