Caltrans will open the 700 foot closed portion of Route 192/Stanwood Drive near Parma Park to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians on Monday, June 9, 12 days earlier than expected. The highway was closed on April 21 to realign the road due to instability dangers caused by the proximity to Sycamore Creek. According to Caltrans’ public information officer Jim Shivers, this closing was a minor inconvenience for residents, as he explained that many were able to easily find alternate routes. Shivers said that the inconvenience was worth it, because “what we have now is much better and safer.” The highway was originally closed with an estimated two months’ repair time, but work crews with contractor Papich Construction of Grover Beach finished nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.
