A call went out from Santa Barbara County on May 21 seeking “developer/borrowers” interested in creating permanent rental housing for people with severe mental illness, using some or all of the $4,577,000 it expects to receive over the next three years from the California Department of Mental Health. The county is also putting the word out to community-based organizations that might coordinate and manage such projects. A 30-day public comment period on the initiative ends June 19. For an application, feedback form, and more information go to the Santa Barbara County Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services website.
