The raised glazed donuts served at the downtown Spudnuts will soon be razed if a crew of developers from Orange County have their way. In place of the Radio Square Plaza at the corner of Carrillo and De la Vina, the developers have proposed three stories of condos and shops. This week, the developers erected “story poles” to show the exact heights and scale of their proposal. Of the 32 condos, five are slated to be affordable. Initially, the proposed plans were far more towering and ambitious, but the developer trimmed them back in response to comments by the Santa Barbara Planning Commission. This week the Commissioners will determine whether the environmental analysis of the project is adequate and whether the project needs more intense scrutiny.
