Hotel Andalucia, which for years was a home for retirees called the Carrillo before it was rebuilt as a luxury hotel, reopened on Monday, January 14. It is now the Canary Hotel, its official theme “island tranquility,” with a Moroccan and Spanish flavor. Interior designer Michael. S. Smith decorated the lobby and all 97 rooms.
The Canary Hotel now offers the Coast Restaurant and Bar for casual dining, with a menu by Chef Fermin Arias that echoes those at the other two hotels in the Edward Thomas Collection of Hotels: Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar, both in Santa Monica. The rooftop, with its 360-degree view and swimming pool, and the hotel ballroom will continue to serve as venues for all types of functions. Located at 31 West Carrillo Street, right across the street from the Greyhound Bus Station.
