The Inns

The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation will present its 17th annual celebration of Una Noche de las Posadas this Saturday, December 15, at 6 p.m. at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park. Las Posadas (The Inns) is the time-honored reenactment of Joseph and Mary’s search for shelter in Bethlehem as it was once celebrated in early California and is still observed throughout Mexico and South America.

Calling All Trendsetters

The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum upcoming juried exhibition, The Bellwether Effect: At the Forefront of Design is asking designers of all walks-architects, graphic artists, fashion designers, electronics engineers, and other creative minds-to submit their works.

Question: ‘What is the story behind this drawing of Santa Barbara?

This pen and ink drawing of Santa Barbara, dated 1844, was executed by a Swede traveling through California in the years 1842-43, G. M. Waseurtz af Sandels. Sandels kept a journal during his travels, with comments on the places he visited and, periodically, with sketches. His journal, thought lost until published by the Society of California Pioneers in 1926, offers a fascinating portrait of California toward the end of Mexican rule.

Adult Ed Woodworking Classes Create Toys for Kids

Elves might not be able to handle the noise and the dust, but it’s Santa Central all year in Room 10 at the Wake Center. Six hundred toys are turned out in this mini factory that’s a class in woodworking on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Point Sal Access Still Unresolved

Once visited for its remoteness and natural beauty, recent visitors to Point Sal State Park have found barbed wire fences adorned with no trespassing signs and military security patrols to greet them.
