The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation will present its 17th annual celebration of Una Noche de las Posadas this Saturday, December 15, at 6 p.m. at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park. Las Posadas (The Inns) is the time-honored reenactment of Joseph and Mary’s search for shelter in Bethlehem as it was once celebrated in early California and is still observed throughout Mexico and South America. The evening begins with a short Mass and singing of traditional holiday songs in the historic Presidio Chapel led by El Coro del Real Presidio de Santa Barbara. Join the choir in a procession led by a young Joseph and Mary and their burro as they stroll and sing their way to State Street, through Paseo Nuevo shopping mall, and into De la Guerra Plaza. The procession will end at Casa de la Guerra as Joseph and Mary finally find lodging, where guests enjoy more singing, traditional refreshments, hot cocoa, and a pi±ata for the children.
