Mayor Blum Hospitalized After Fainting
Change in Medications Blamed as Possible Cause
Mayor Marty Blum has been hospitalized in Las Vegas after a “fainting episode” on a flight to Connecticut. The mayor and her husband, Joe, who left Santa Barbara early this morning, were taking a personal trip to Connecticut, but because of her health issue, the plan was diverted to Las Vegas as a precaution, where she was seen by a doctor, according to city administrative services director Marcelo Lopez.
Physicians think it resulted as a reaction to a change in her post-cancer medication, according to Mayor Pro Tempore Das Williams. As of 5:30 p.m, Mayor Blum was still in a hospital in Las Vegas, he said, where she is expected to remain overnight. Joe Blum, a physician, is with her, and “indicates that the mayor appears to be fine,” according to a statement from Lopez.
