You may know Pyata and Bruno from their performances of acoustic Portuguese tunes. Pleasant and soothing though this music may be, there comes a time when one wants to get up and do some dancing. If you want to let your inhibitions go, get a few drinks and hit the dance floor Brazilian style with Beleza Pura. This group stunned SOhO last month with a performance that basically snatched people off the bar stools and threw them in a gyrating fury onto the dance floor – an impressive feat considering that this was the group’s first time in the limelight.
Bruno is solid on the guitar while Pyata frolics from guitar to drum to tambourine, singing and skatting. The dance floor really got going at the band’s previous show when they burst into a few Brazilian pop covers. Beleza Pura mixes hip-hop, reggae, funk, samba, rock and something special of their very own into a grand creation that is hard to explain – and even harder to stand still to.
Beleza Pura performs at SOhO at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 13.
