Betsey Johnson; need I say more? I didn’t think so. After all, what stylephile doesn’t go ga-ga for her legendary designs-sexy silhouettes that are feminine yet edgy, bohemian fabrics with whimsical detail and a touch of rock ‘n’ roll? Since her 1960s debut, Johnson is one icon who has managed never to loose relevance, and now, Betsey-loving Barbare±as will have a place to get their hands on her duds. Yep, I’m told that Betsey Johnson will open its doors at 939 State Street by the end of the month. Clearly, there is a god, and she has excellent taste.

Success by Design: Local interior designer/event planner Scott Corridan has been selected as one of the 11 contestants on the second season of HGTV’s Design Star, the number-one rated show on the network. This season takes place in Las Vegas, and to the winner go the spoils: his or her own show on HGTV. So, let’s wish our hometown hero well (which, in reality-TV speak, translates to favorable lighting, sympathetic edits, and zero emotional breakdowns). And remember, what happens in Vegas premieres Sunday, July 22, at 10 p.m., and airs for seven weeks on Sundays at 9 p.m.

All’s well that ends well: Vanessa Rivers- spawned of Hollywood stock that includes Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, raised on a San Luis Obispo eco-ranch, and educated at UCSB-believes going green should start with the basics: underwear. To that end, she’s launching an environmentally conscious “loungewear” line, Happy Endingz. All her pieces are made locally, chemical-free, from organic cotton, and are packaged in 100 percent recycled paper. The affordably priced line includes lingerie (pictured above), dresses, yoga pants, scarves, hats, and tank tops, and will be available online at happyendingz.com and Outfit (1017 State St.) beginning in July.

Calling all Designers

Santa Barbara-based online fashion boutique blaec.com-which in its seven-plus years has secured its status as an industry darling via frequent strokes from style-minded glossies, including that very bible of shopology, Lucky magazine-wants you! Blaec.com has announced its first contest, dubbed Collection 1.0, a Project Runway-esque competition aiming to find the most talented undiscovered fashion stars of tomorrow. Designers are encouraged to submit four original pieces (follow the instructions at blaec.com/collection1.0.html) by September 1, at which point the powers that be will select eight finalists to be featured on the site. Unlike Project Runway contestants, Collection 1.0 hopefuls will be spared the snide and snarky feedback of Nina Garcia and Michael Kors and challenges involving constructing duds from nothing but leafy greens, but they will be forced to put their fates in the hands of couture-loving consumers, who’ll vote on their faves. The top three will get their entire collections featured-and sold-on the site next spring, bypassing the typical (and tedious) career-launching obstacle course. The contest underscores blaec.com’s mission, to scour the earth for the most stylicious up-and-comers, constantly bringing fresh, new, fashion-forward designs to stylephiles everywhere. Barezzi

Local designer/personal trainer/bartender/playwright Leone Barezzi is the definition of a modern-day renaissance man, and he’ll be showcasing his sexy, sophisticated designs at a fashion show next Wednesday, June 27, atop the Hotel Andaluc-a. Why should you care?

1) His strictly anti-anorexic ethos. “You don’t have to be six feet tall and rail thin; I just want people who are fit and look good,” he said of his models, which include real people he’s noticed around town and clients from his personal training job.

2) The gowns themselves. He’s spent several hours every day for the last year working on the 20-plus designs that will be featured in the show, some of which demanded a month’s worth of work. And they’ll all be for sale.

3) His skills as a playwright, which ensure that the show will be a production of theatrical proportions. Expect to be surprised.
