The certifiable Shangri-las of Rancho El Cojo and Jalama Ranch
have officially been sold, with escrow expected to close in early
September. Though the buyer and the amount paid have yet to be
disclosed, the asking price was about $120 million for the total
package of 8,580-acre El Cojo and 15,813-acre Jalama. The land
encompasses a vast majority of the pristine Gaviota Coast,
beginning with the Surfin’ Cowboy Ranch and Hollister Ranch and
extending all the way up to Jalama County Park near Lompoc. In
addition to boasting world-class surf breaks, Point Concepción and
its historic lighthouse, untold Chumash sites, and miles of
pristine ranch land, the area is also home to oil leases and dozens
of legally developable lots.
