Surfboard industry heavyweight and South Coast local Al Merrick
announced last week that his world-famous, locally made Channel
Islands surfboards will soon be sharing store racks with a
price-point, pop-out label of his own design called Anacapa
Surfboards. Scheduled for release this summer, the boards – which
are designed by Merrick, but shaped by a computer in a faraway
factory – will be offered at a comparatively low price and
distributed to 19 countries by surf conglomerate Global Surf
Industries. The line will feature four designs aimed at entry-level
to intermediate board riders and range from small-wave short boards
to a longer hybrid design.
