The Skinny: So, you think country is just for
hicks? Runaway Train’s upcoming self-titled CD release takes
country for a punk-rock spin. You may have already heard a few of
their songs on 107.7 FM, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Soon the entire full-length project will be ready to hit the
county. “Half the album’s done right now. These five songs are just
to get us out there,” said Latta. If the first five songs, which
were recorded in Montecito this past November, are any indication,
then the full CD to follow will be a straight-up dose of
alt-country with bluesy, rambling lyrics. Their twangy chords and
too-tough-for-country rhythms prove that alt-country ain’t for no
goody-two-shoes.
Next Gig: Tuesday, March 7 at the Velvet
Jones.
