A business improvement district would give a voice to milpas and finally give some structure and power to the area to answer the mysterious questions; why can't we get traffic signals? Why doesn't the city care about the crappy conditions on milpas?
Until now there has been no structural organization and let me just say it, financed structure, to lobby, advocate and demand certain things. So this is good.
And for the critics fearing gentrification, there is power in unity. If you're worried that it will be run to merely empower the white business owners or the wealthier ones, then get involved. Having to pay into a BID gives every business equal representation so be involved from the beginning, stay involved, help shape the community. This is phenomenal and long overdue. Bravo, Sharon

Not a loss at all to this community. In fact, perhaps they decreased their readership and eventually failed when they took a mediocre paper and ran it through a tabloid like overhaul. People don't need the tabloid stories, any more than the one sided reporting. Perhaps the Indy and the News-press will take notice.

In the absence of any overarching campaign themes Nick has framed this election into a bulb outs election again. Odd...

@italiansurg I completely agree with you. It's been fascinating to watch this, "get in line" behavior from the party and it's insiders.

Wow. a surprise endorsement, so long before the elections...I saw the "all problem solving" expenditure chart, but I didn't see an expense there for media buys...I've loved watching each individual bought out, and now the Indy.
