Nice article, but a positive point you've missed: there would be more bike commuting here if we didn't have such an excellent bus system, at least traveling east-west (for out-of-towners: east-west = what you think of as south-north)

I love the article's "allowing conservative neighborhood advocate Michael Self to eek out a narrow victory." OK, it should be "eke out", but "eek out" is so much more appropriate.

If Binky's quote is right, that the meters broadcast 45 seconds a day, there is no health issue. Much of the rest of the whining (after you filter out the black helicopter crowd) seems to be about power costing too much. This is a different issue and, in the long run, is helped by finding efficiencies, like smart meters, instead of paying people to go from house to house each month. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I see some improvement here. Last year around this time the good professor was confusing Israel with Nazi Germany. This year he's only confusing Santa Barbara with Arizona. Getting closer, and not nearly so offensive.
