As a parent, you tell me how I can send my child to my neighborhood school when 50% of the population are classified as English Learners? School demographics at my neighborhood school are 96% Hispanic, .9% Caucasian, .5% Asian, 1.1% African American and so on and so forth. As the parent of a Hispanic child, even I can safely say I am not comfortable with these statistics nor am I comfortable sending her to a school with low test schools, poor academic performance and one that has been sanctioned. I can safely say that even though I went to the same school 30+ years ago, I want better for her. I took the chance and transferred her, do I regret it even though I'm getting the boot – not on your life! I not only look for academic performance, I've looked for ethnic balance and will continue to do so.
