When the "Red Shaman" was re-discovered, some old mining tools were nearby. This raised the question of whether the rock art was done by the Chumash or by early miners. Later while collecting oral histories from early pioneers, Jim Blakely, interviewed one of the miners who had found the Chumash Shaman and were planning to return to pick up their tools.
