I saw the film at the Film Festival -- if you are interested in the condor recovery program, or birding, or the environment, don't miss it!
I was very impressed by Joseph's ability to not only tend lovingly to these pre-historic birds, but also to embrace the full complexity of the political situation surrounding the Condor Recovery Program. He made excellent points in the comments afterwards about the shared interests of hunters and environmentalists in preserving large open spaces. The polarized fights of the past don't serve anyone. This gentle young man/scientist/father has the potential to actually save these birds through earnest and progressive political activism as well. Godspeed.

There are big wind gusts in the Gaviota mountains this morning at dawn. I sure hope the same is not true at 154.

The work of former UCSB Professor (now at Univ of Arizona) Yolanda Broyles-González in this area is very impressive and informative. If you want to learn more, see her book, "El Teatro Campesino: Theater in the Chicano Movement"

Who/where are the "concierge" doctors in town? How does one find them, even if one could afford them?

The article reports that..."only Gaviota and More Mesa beaches offer sections in which people can folic nude without the threat of citations". Which section of those beaches? Are there signs?

Incredibly informative article -- I'm so grateful -- many blessings to all who are fighting this fire, and all who are affected by it.

Dear Snapolis -- the distance is deceptive -- I am much further west, almost at El Capitan, and I can see the flames from here as well (becuase I am at 1200 ft elevation) -- I just drove here from Turnpike & 101 area and I can say that the flames are no further west than Turnpike as of now.

Can someone explain to a Film Festival Newbie how the tickets and passes work? I'm interested in seeing some of the films, but I have no idea how to get a ticket, or what the priority structure is for seating. I've scoured the sbiff.org website and schedule, and this week's Independent, but there are no hints. I guess we're all just supposed to know how to do this. Does one just show up for a movie, but a ticket there, and get in?

While I love the food, I have found the service to be substandard. And I think the prices are too high for what you get. But I do appreciate that they are sensitive to helping people with special diets, and that they contribute to the community by having the healing nights. Perhaps, over time, the service will improve.

Decisions like these remind me of why I supported the County Split. Sure wish that had succeeded! I don't want people from North County to have the right to make Goleta look like Lompoc or Santa Maria.
